This Fitness Nutrition Plan Shows You How To Customize Your Diet Based On Your Body

I created this fitness nutrition plan to show people how much and what they should be eating to refuel their bodies. Many plans are generic and I wanted to show you how to customize it for your age, height, and weight.

The first thing you need to determine is how many calories your body needs each day. The easiest way to do this for this nutrition plan is based on math formulas. I know, I know…everyone hates math. Just push through this so you know what the needs are for your body.

Step One

The formula is attributed to Harris Benedict and it is highly regarded as the most accurate method to calculate your caloric needs. It is as follows:

For Women: 655 + (4.35 x weight in pounds) + (4.7 x height in inches) – (4.7 x age in years)

For Men: 66 + (6.23 x weight in pounds) + (12.7 x height in inches) – (6.8 x age in years)

Step Two

You will need to take your number and then multiply it based on the information in the chart below. Use the exercise factor number that best describes your level of fitness and multiply it by the number you had in the formula above.

Exercise Factor Category Explanation
1.2 Sedentary Little or no exercise
1.375 Lightly Active Light Exercise (1 to 3 days/week)
1.55 Moderately Active Moderate Exercise (3 to 5 days/week)
1.7 Very Active Hard Exercise (6 to 7 days/week)
1.9 Extremely Active Hard daily exercise and/or a physical job

Step Three

The figure you have after you have multiplied is your base caloric needs to maintain your weight. If you are wanting to gain weight, then you need to add 200-300 calories per day to this number.

If you are wanting to lose weight, then you can subtract 300-500 calories a day from your total number.

This fitness nutrition plan has considered all factors. It has included your personal weight, height, age, fitness level, and whether you want to lose or gain weight. Now, here comes the plan…

Meals, Meals, Meals…and More Meals!

This customized diet plan assumes that you are going to be eating five meals per day. Yes, you did read that correctly. It is based on the principle of eating smaller meals several times a day.  This is one of the basic principles of the fitness nutrition plan.

In many cases, we eat more at a meal than we should. So, we want to change the way that we eat. By eating smaller meals several times a day, your metabolism will increase and help you burn off this food.

Fitness Nutrition Plan Meal GuideNot only is it important to eat small meals frequently, but it is important to eat the right foods. You need to be eating a lot of protein during your meals. This protein is what is going to provide fuel to your muscles and increase your metabolism.

Since everyone is different, you need to adjust this and find what works for you. Eating every three hours is what works for me and my schedule. It takes a little planning but the fitness nutrition plan works for me.

I also highly recommend staying away from things made with white flour. Your diet will be much better if you are eating whole wheat items. This will provide you with your best results.

What do I eat for meals? I like things that are easy to prepare. Otherwise I am going to be cooking all day. I did not want to get in shape so that I could spend all day cooking. Here are some ideas of what I eat for meals:

Meal 1 = Protein bar, yogurt, and whole wheat english muffin.

Meal 2 = Turkey and swiss whole wheat sandwich, and carrot sticks.

Meal 3 = Chicken wrap (whole wheat tortilla) with some fruit (apple, orange, or banana)

Meal 4 = Steak, steamed broccoli, and baked potato.

Meal 5 = Protein shake and fruit.

Each of these meals is about 500 calories which is what I need based on my height, weight, and age. I hope that this helps you with your fitness nutrition plan. If you want to perform at an elite level, you must fuel your body at an elite level.

Beach Volleyball Dimensions – Court Measurements Made Easy

Beach volleyball dimensions for the court is the purpose of this page. We wanted to show you how to know what the volleyball court dimensions should be as well as the other measurements associated with the court.

Here is a diagram of what the volleyball court should look like and the measurements:

Beach Volleyball Dimensions

The width of the court should be 30 feet from sideline to sideline. The length of the volleyball court should be 60 feet from one baseline to the other baseline. That is one of the things that makes beach volleyball so challenging. Two players are covering a full size court.

Beach volleyball court measurements from one pole to the other pole is 36 feet. The purpose of the 6 extra feet (3 feet per side) is to make sure that there is enough room that the players do not run into the pole.

When you are buying a net for your beach volleyball court, you need to make sure that the net is going to be long enough from one pole to the other one. This is one reason that it is important to know the court measurements. If you did not know the measurements, you could end up buying a net that would nor work. You do not want to deal with the hassle of getting a net, and then having to return it.

If you need to pick up a net for an outdoor court, you can go here and take a look at the reviews of many kinds of nets and net systems.

The measurement from the baseline to the attack line is 20 feet. That leaves 10 feet from the attack line to the net.

In most cases, there will not be an attack line in beach volleyball. Since you are playing two on two, there is no need for an attack line because you do not have people hitting off of the back row.

These measurements will give you the space that you need for your volleyball court.

Knowing Beach Volleyball Rules Is The Starting Point…

Knowing beach volleyball rules is a must if you want to start playing. If you don’t know the rules, how are you going to play and compete? Or as Pink Floyd said in one of their songs, “How can you eat your pudding if you don’t eat your meat?”

The majority of the rules are going to be the same as if you were playing indoor volleyball. If you aren’t familiar with those rules, I would suggest going here to learn the rules of volleyball.

I am mostly going to be focusing on the rules that are different for beach volleyball.
Beach Volleyball Rules

  • Scoring usually consists of the best of three sets. Each set is usually played to 21 points and the winner must win by two points. If it goes to the final set, the set goes to 15 points. The score is done by rally score.
  • Sets must be straight in front of the setter. Side setting is not permitted.
  • Open handed dinks or tips are not legal for the hitter. If they are going to tip it over the net, they must use a closed fist or knuckles.
  • Teams will change sides of the court after every seven points regardless of who won the points. Since the sun and wind can affect the court, changing sides makes it fair for both teams.
  • Unlike indoor volleyball, you are not required to rotate or change positions.

Indoor Volleyball Net – Three Reviews

Need an indoor volleyball net? You will love these reviews on these volleyball nets. I am going to review three different grades of nets. That way, you can pick the one that will make the most sense for your situation.

Introductory Grade Net

Indoor Volleyball Net - Low GradeThis net is more of an entry level quality net. It will certainly do the job, but it is not the type of net that you would want to use for serious competitions.

This is the type of net you would want to use with very young youth teams (since they like to be monkeys and hang on the net), or for very casual play.

Also, if you do not play often, this type of net may make sense because of the lower cost.

There are several reasons that this is a lower level net: It does not have anything to reinforce the sides of the net, there are not additional straps to tie the net to the poles, and it does not have a reinforcement bar that you will see on the higher quality nets.

Although there is not anything special about this net, it will serve its purpose. You can pick one up here from Amazon: Macgregor Volleyball Net

Recreational Grade Net

Indoor Volleyball Net - Recreational GradeThis indoor volleyball net is a medium grade level. This type of a net would work well for recreational play, junior leagues, and volleyball practices.

This volleyball net has several features that make it several steps above the introductory level net:

  • Additional ties to secure it to the net
  • Reinforced side strap
  • Fiberglass dowels for net bracing

With the dowels and the reinforced straps, the net will be more durable and will endure more wear and tear. If you are looking for a net that will last a long time, you will need features like these.

The additional ties will mean that the net will be tighter. This will allow for the ball to easily be played out of the net. This net will work very well for all of your needs.

If you want to pick one up, you can get it here: Recreation Volleyball Net

Competition Grade Net

Indoor Volleyball Net - Competition GradeThis indoor volleyball net is the whole enchilada. Everything that you would want in a net, you will find it with this one.

This premium net is designed for the highest level of play. This is the type of net you would see in tournaments, matches, and any level of competitive play.

This net meets all specifications for competitions of all levels.

The dowels on this net are wooden and will withstand any and all punishment. The net floats on the top cable. This “floating” allows for simple centering of the net. Just get the top cable secured on the poles, and you can move the net prior to securing the other fasteners.

The additional side ties provide buckle clamp closures. If the ties are just cords and you have to tie a knot in them, you will not be able to secure it as tightly as you would with these clamps. These clamps will also prevent you from getting knots in the ties.

This net also features reinforced corners for maximum durability. This is the top of the line quality and will provide exceptional play.

You can pick it up here: Competition Indoor Net

Weight Lifting Equipment – Which Ones Are The Best For Volleyball Athletes?

Weight training is an important aspect of volleyball training. So, which weight lifting equipment is the best? Does it make sense to use free weights, kettlebells, or a full home gym system? This webpage will answer those questions.

How Is Weight Training Essential?

The importance of weight training should not be ignored. When you are working on developing explosive power and strength, it requires that you use weight beyond your own body weight.

Weight Lifting EquipmentWhen you use the correct form and control, lifting weights becomes a quick way to increase your power. Power is important for a volleyball player. The explosive power can mean that you jump higher, hit harder, and block better. There are also studies that show that athletes who use weight training are also more resistant to injuries on the court.

For personal reasons, I like to use free weights when training. I do not like the huge bars, weight plates, and such. I feel that those weight training systems slow down my workout and it is just bulky to store around the house. As a result, I prefer weight lifting equipment that will allow me to move in an out of exercises quickly.

When I am training, I like to do interval training.  Interval training is where you go quickly from one exercise to the next without resting. Your heart rate will shoot up, and it is almost like getting a
cardiovascular workout while lifting weights.

I like to share this because it plays an important part in my mindset when I am looking for weight systems that will allow me to train that way. I find that my body responds much better to interval training than anything else I have found so far.

With that in mind, I will be sharing some of the best weight training equipment I have found for volleyball players. These tools will include things like kettlebells, dumb bells, training bands, among others.

Volleyball Nets Reviewed

Volleyball nets come in many different types. And, there are certain things that I look for when I am shopping for a net...

First of all, I need to decide if I need just a net for volleyball or do I need a volleyball net system? The main difference is that the net system will include poles.

These reviews on these nets for volleyball are broken down into both types. There are reviews on both nets and net systems.

Volleyball Nets

Another thing that I look for is that I need a net that is durable. I have played with the net systems that you can buy for cheap and (surprise, surprise) you get what you pay for. I have played with net systems where the net was so cheap, that it broke the first time the ball hit it.

I also played with one where, when the ball hit the net, the ball weighed so much more than the net system and the whole thing would just fall over.

I want one that is durable. I am more than a casual volleyball player. Plus, I do not like "family reunion" type volleyball. That is where everyone is just happy to hit the ball over the net on the first hit. It is more like tennis than it is volleyball. If that is the type of volleyball you want to play, the net system you choose will not be that important.

Since I am a more serious player, I want a volleyball net where I can play the ball out of the net if it goes into it. This requires a sturdy net and poles that can tighten the net.

In my opinion, you need to have good volleyball equipment that will help you play at your peak level. Believe it or not, the net system you choose is part of that choice.

Volleyball Balls Review

Volleyball balls will be reviewed on this section of the website. I wanted to make sure that everyone knew more information about the type of ball they were going to purchase. When you know what you are buying, you will be a happier buyer as well as a happier player.

Volleyball Balls ReviewVolleyballs come in all different types and manufactured by different companies. I am going to outline what you should look for in each of these brands as well as giving you a review from a player and coach (me) on each.

Once you find the one that makes the most sense for your needs, then you can decide if it is a good fit or not.

I am passionate about volleyball and I hope that passion and excitement comes through. Sure, there are a lot of sites out there where you can purchase volleyball equipment, but very few of them are done by people that know anything about volleyball.

I have spent the last 17 years of my life playing or coaching volleyball. I am far from a professional, but I do have a passion for it. As a result, you are going to get these volleyballs reviewed by someone that loves the sport.

I will review the following volleyballs:

Tachikara Volleyballs

Wilson Volleyball

Spalding Volleyballs

Mikasa Volleyball

Molten Volleyball

Training Volleyballs

Ball Bag

If there are specific balls that you would like me to review, please contact me and let me know and I would be happy to do it. Enjoy the reviews!

The Best Volleyball Sunglasses Reviewed!

Which volleyball sunglasses are the best? I get asked that question often. On this section of the website, I will give a few reviews of sunglasses that are highly favored and give you my review of how they work.

Volleyball SunglassesAs with any type of purchase, it all depends on what you are looking for. Are you looking for something that will stay on your face during the heat of battle? Do you need sunglasses for beach volleyball that will keep the sun out of your eyes? Or, is it all about style and the way you look?

The good news is that with today’s sunglasses, you can get all three of those options if you find the right pair of sunglasses.

I have used sunglasses that were too loose and they constantly fell off while I was playing. It was more of an annoyance than a help from the sun. Sure, I could have gotten some of the straps that secure the sunglasses around your head, but that does not look very fashionable.

That is the main reason to have these reviews on various sunglasses. I do not want you to have the same problems that I did when I was looking for the right pair of sunglasses for beach volleyball.

I will review beach volleyball glasses from the major manufacturers. That would include Nike sunglasses, Smith Optics, Sky Optics, and others.

When you have a pair of sunglasses that are comfortable, useful, and fashionable, you will feel more confident on the volleyball court.

Take a look at each of these reviews to see which ones are the highest rated.

Volleyball Spandex Shorts Reviews

Volleyball spandex shorts are another important part of your volleyball gear. You wouldn’t want to play without volleyball shorts, right? That would be a different website than this one…

This section of the website is geared towards spandex volleyball shorts and volleyball shorts in general. I will review some of the top name brands and let you know which ones will make the most sense for your needs and your pocketbook.

Volleyball Spandex ShortsWhen you are looking for a pair of volleyball shorts, there are a few items to consider when purchasing:

  • Fashion – You want to look good of course…even though it doesn’t necessarily make you play better, at least you will have one less thing to worry about.
  • Comfort – If they aren’t comfortable, you will not wear them for long. Tagless shorts are also preferred not only for comfort but also you don’t have to concern yourself with a tag hanging out somewhere.
  • Mobility – They shouldn’t restrict movement. And they shouldn’t be too loose so that they are flapping all over the place.
  • Durability – Can they withstand diving, sliding, etc. I like the seamless shorts as well so that there are not ridges all over the shorts.
  • Price – It shouldn’t cost a fortune for a good pair of shorts

With these factors in mind, I will review the top spandex volleyball shorts and help you determine whether they meet these criteria or not. Because the bottom line is that you want to look good, have durable shorts, and not have to pay an arm and a leg to get them.

The reviews are for:

Asics Volleyball Shorts

Adidas Volleyball Shorts

Mizuno Volleyball Shorts

I hope these reviews help you select the right pair of shorts and that you look and feel great while playing!
